History of Shiwa

Shiwa Town was founded on April 1st, 1955. The town marked a first step with the merger of one town, Hizume and eight villages, Furudate, Mizuwake, Shiwa, Akaishi, Hikobe, Sahinai, Akasawa and Nagaoka. It is about 50 years old, but its vicinity used to be prosperous as the center of Iwate. It is dotted with the remains of the Jomon period, the armors in connection with the Nambu clan, the historic site of a castle, and so on all over the town.
